J & G needed to update their 80’s kitchen. With the love to collect antiques, they already had a great set of soda fountain stools, a fabulous antique butchers block, a collection of old meat tenderizers, and assorted Tchotchkes they had been gathering for their new space.

Their kitchen wants: a stone sink, drain board, professional stove to cook their gourmet meals on, and an updated bar to entertain with.

What I love about this kitchen, even though we broke a few design guidelines, is how it is their kitchen. Strip the kitchen of all their special items and the next homeowner can make it their own too. But this won’t happen anytime soon, as J & G love their kitchen.

The main sink is milled out of a solid piece of Mystic Mountain Granite, quarried in nearby Belfast Maine. The cabinets are classic beaded inset with beaded center panels on the lower doors and flat panels at top to keep the kitchen from closing in. The wood floors were repaired and refinished, and the home owner found some great “old” cypress boards to accent the carrying beam and post, and use for the bar shelves. It’s deep texture and wonderful warmth ground the kitchen nicely.
